Direct Bias Modeling

Slide 1 of 6

What is Direct Bias Modeling?

Direct bias modeling: Include unmeasured confounder in the analysis model.

Approach:

  1. Specify prior distribution for unmeasured confounder
  2. Model relationships between confounder, exposure, outcome
  3. Impute confounder values
  4. Analyze with imputed data

Contrast with external adjustment:

  • External: Apply correction formula to estimate
  • Direct: Include variable in model itself
